Building Costs Expected to Rise Further in Late 2023
Construction laws due to take effect 1st October 2023 will require that all new homes built in Queensland are to be more accessible and meet a seven-star energy-efficiency rating.
Although these initiatives aim to boost inclusivity and reduce carbon emissions, it is estimated by building industry groups that these measures will increase building costs by up to 1% – or an average of $30,000 per home.
Some of the regulations may require new homes to include rooftop solar, lighter coloured roofs and double-glazed windows, as well as one step-free entry into the home, wider internal walkways and a toilet on the entry-level floor of a 2-storey home.
If you are considering building a new home in 2023 and want to beat this incoming price rise, titled land will generally need to be secured some months before the changes are implemented on 1st October. Sufficient time is required by builders to prepare and lodge building plans for approval.
